What are your intentions for this semester in General Chemistry, C106? Please do not put it in terms of a grade, rather share what you hope to get out of the class. If you want to share why you are in this class also, I would appreciate knowing. This discussion forum is viewed by other students in your class, so keep that in mind as you post comments this semester.

I am hoping to get a better understanding of how the universe functions at the microscopic level. I actually started taking these chemistry classes to better understand a lot of the readings I was doing in grad school and realized that I really enjoyed the chemistry as it gave me a better understanding of many things; everything really clicked in to place as I could apply it to actual scenarios. I have since decided that I will be completing the pre-requisites for medical school admission while working in clinical research at the university.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good goal! Make connections with things you are doing or learning in other areas helps with learning this material.
DeleteMy supreme goals include going to medical school, practicing for awhile, going back to get a PhD, and eventually becoming a Professor for a Medical school. I will never be satisfied doing the same career for my entire life. Thus I hope to be a life long learner and do what I love helping people from a medical perspective. I hope that this class will teach me more about the basis of Biology both plant & human. My major is Biology and I am completely pre-requisites for medical school. I enjoy chemistry in general because it is the central Science. Nothing would exist without the Chemistry behind it. I think this course will help me better understand those areas and lead me further on my educational path.
ReplyDeleteI hope that I can help you with this process.
DeleteI hope to better my understanding of general chemistry concepts and use the foundation built in C105 and C106 to successfully continue with other chemistry and biology courses. I enjoy chemistry, especially chemistry labs. I find the experiments very intriguing. I hope to pursue a career in dentistry, so a strong chemistry background is essential to my success. I am very excited to learn this semester!
ReplyDeleteEnjoying labs connects in my mind to skills needed as a dentist!
DeleteI want to solidify the foundational concepts of chemistry I learned in C105 and master the concepts taught in C106 so I can have access to higher levels of chemistry courses that build on this foundation. I'm looking forward to learning about things that I didn't even know existed.
ReplyDeleteOne of my goals is to help treat and care for people as a doctor. I know that C106 is a class that involves key principles of chemistry that are new to me, but will be very useful in my journey ahead.
Please always think of learning as a journey.
DeleteI believe that this course will give me valuable insights into the behavior of matter, and will help me to embark on the path of utilizing chemistry in the development of novel treatments and cures for disease as a future physician-scientist.
ReplyDeleteNot just the chemistry but the method of learning new things. As a physician-scientist you will be a life long learner!
DeleteThrough this course, I hope to better understand different forces that interact together in the grand scheme of things. By taking this course, it will help me build my chemistry foundation as an engineering student.
ReplyDeleteThere are many relationships between chemistry and engineering.
DeleteFrom this class, I hope to be able to learn to connect everything I learn in the course with my current/future Biomedical Engineering classes. By doing so, I will then have a more in-depth understanding of future course material. I also hope that this course will well prepare me for my pre-medical studies. It is my goal to understand the material well enough so that I may be able excel on my MCAT. In terms of long term studies, I hope to be able to think back to this course while attending medical school to have the background knowledge required to succeed.
ReplyDeleteKeep in mind that teaching others helps you learn it even better.
DeleteFirst off chemistry is my life. I know that sounds nerdy but it's true. By taking this course I will love to expand the knowledge I received in C105. Anything to build upon my knowledge base of chemistry excites me. Chemistry is just so beautiful and anything I get out of this class will be pleasing to me. I hope this semester goes well for me and I hope to enjoy both lab and lecture.
ReplyDeleteDoes not sound nerdy to me!
DeleteUltimately, i hope to come away with a better understanding of chemistry and apply it to the bigger picture of life and education. As a science major, all of my courses seem to over lap and help understand the mystery that is life.
ReplyDeletethey really do overlap, you might learn the same thing from a different angle in a different class.

ReplyDeleteI hope that by taking this class, I will be able to observe the world in a different way and better understand how various processes work. I would like to move on to more difficult chemistry classes in the future and believe that C106 will be able to prepare me for them. I am taking this class because I enjoyed taking general chemistry in high school and need C106 for my Biology major as well. I hope to enter medical school and feel that this class will help me excel.
ReplyDeleteYou need a strong foundation to build upon!
DeleteI am taking this class to expand the information I took in C105. Also, this course will lead me to the other courses that I should take in order to complete my study in the major. So, it is important for me to do good in it.
ReplyDeleteSo.... plan how you are going to do well.
DeleteI'm an Environmental Science major, so I have a strong interest in learning the various ways in which the Earth (and, not to limit myself, the universe as a whole) "ticks", both from the macro- and microscopic point of view. I also heard that this course is much more mathematically intensive than C105, which is exciting for a big goofy math nerd like me!
ReplyDeleteThe course marries concepts and math so that you have to understand the concepts in order to apply the math.
DeleteThanks for your responses!
