The following link is to Chemistry Crash Course #28 on Equilibrium. It is a 10 minute video.
After you have watched it, comment on a concept that you learned more about, something that you found confusing/incorrect, or perhaps something that you think explains one of the concepts in a better/different way. Just one of these, don't get carried away! (By the way, you might learn something from #29 also)

  1. this video heped clarify the fact that when an equation is at equilibrium and a variable is changed such as pressure, it will proceed in the direction to stabalize the reaction. For instance, if pressure is increased, the reaction will proceed in the direction away from the side with most moles of gas.
My question is why wast le chtalier given the prize instead of haber

    1. Often practical applications receive more notice then the foundational information.

  2. This video helped solidify the concept of equilibrium through the understanding that a chemical reaction doesn't necessarily start at 'A' and finish at 'B' but rather has a multitude of different steps in-between. These steps and reactions can also go back and forth with no added energy and is at equilibrium when the rate forward and backwards is the same.

  3. I thought the way he explained/illustrated the Le Chatelier's Principle helped me understand this concept better. A type of disturbance to equilibrium is a change in concentration, so the reaction proceeds in the direction that minimizes the stress, until equilibrium is restored.

  4. I thought that the video helped clarify how the factors of Le Chatelier's Principle actually affect the equilibrium. The factors that disturb the reaction cause the reaction to find a way to reduce the stress factor and go back into the equilibrium state.

  5. I also thought that he explained Le Chatelier's Principle well. I have always thought of it just like a typical Algebra sense that when you add or take something away from one side then something has to happen to the other side to be balanced. I think that he better represented temperature and pressure because before I didn't understand it as well.

  6. The video explained Le Chatelier's principle well. The part about the stress clarified the point that I was confused about before. First, I thought it was so complicated or how can we add stress to the reaction, but now it is clear.

  7. This video helped clarify Le Chatelier's principles for me. It specifically helped me to understand how the reaction shifts one way or the other based on what is stressing it. For some reason, it has been harder for me to grasp how an increase or decrease pressure affects a reaction, but this video helped me to better understand the concept.
